What is the difference between Yoga and Pilates? Both Yoga and Pilates are Mind Body movements. Both use breath as the initiator of the movement. Both are about being conscious in movement. Yoga has an added spiritual component. Yoga in the West has had an exercise lean but traditionally, yoga is a practice that is applied to one's life. The Asana practice (physical movement) was a practice to prepare for meditation. Many of the moves in Yoga and Pilates are similar. Pilates on the equipment has been described as "Yoga in Motion" TOP

If I have never taken Pilates before what class should I take? Begin with the Introduction to Pilates class offered Tuesdays at 5:10pm or Saturdays at 10:10am for a group class. If you prefer or have physical concerns, private introductory sessions are available throughout the day, throughout the week. Both the class and the private session will introduce you to the terms and techniques needed to join any beginning level class or proceed with equipment sessions. After taking the class once, you are welcome to join any beginning level class or repeat this introduction as you feel necessary. TOP

If I have done Pilates before at or gym or on a video do I need to take an introductory class? Yes you need to taken an introductory class. It would be good to do the Introduction to Pilates class here at Tone. Sometimes cueing and terms can vary from gyms and videos. You need only take this class one time and then talk to the instructor about what level class would be appropriate for you. TOP

Can I take a class if I have an injury? We all have issues in our tissues. If you are being treated for an "injury", please check with your medical professional before starting classes. If it is a chronic issue, please talk to the front desk AND your instructor BEFORE the class. These class sessions are YOUR practice. You know your being best. Listen to your inner wisdom and do only what your being feels okay doing. TOP

Are your instructors certified? Yes. All of our instructors have been through Pilates certifications and are required to fill continuing education requirements as part of theircontinued employment. As a studio, we follow the guidelines of the Pilates Method Alliance - a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect the public by establishing certification and continuing education standards for Pilates professionals. Do I need to sign up for classes online? We recommend that you do. As this studio is growing and classes are filling up, signing up online ensures your spot in class. TOP

If I have never taken Yoga before which class do I go to? Introduction to Yoga on Fridays at 5:10 to 6:00pm is a great place to start. Also, our gentle yoga class on Fridays at 8:45am was designed as an Introduction to Yoga class. This is an excellent starting point, but all of our other yoga classes are very beginner friendly. Just be sure to let your instructor know that this is your first yoga class. TOP

What level are your dance classes? Our dance program at Tone is very beginner friendly. Just let the instructor know your level and they'll guide you as you go. TOP

Can Pilates help me lose weight? Losing weight is a life style change. Doing Pilates can be a part of this but you also need to look at your nutritional lifestyle and aerobic workouts. For nutritional guidance, Jennifer Cataldo offers metabolic typing and nutrition consultation. Please click on the Nutrition tab abouve for more information. For the aerobic workout, come join our Zumba or U Jam Fitness classes or any of our "power" classes to get that sweat and heartrate up! Losing weight is an admirable goal, but being healthy and vibrant is optimum. TOP

What exactly will Pilates do for me? Pilates is a MindBody system that is based on breath, centering, balance, strength, flexiibility. It is a full body activity. Pilates has the capability of bringing more conscientiousness and efficiency in your movement, be it athletic or everyday living. TOP

How many times a week do I need to take classes? We recommend a minimum of 2 times a week for Pilates whether that is 2 classes or 1 class and 1 equipment session or 2 equipment sessions. It takes the body about 2000 repetitions to create a habit. With mindful movement and breath, depending on your body and your individual needs, Pilates is great 2-3 times per weeks along with your aerobics (Zumba, walking, running, biking--go play outside!). Is there an age restriction? Movement is for every body. Age is not a factor. Here at Tone we encourage folks 10 years old and up to come participate. TOP

Can I bring my child to class? If your child is 9 years old or younger, you must attend the class with them. All other children must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. We do not allow infants in classes with parents.TOP
