TONE MAT TEACHER TRAINING — SPRING 2011
TEACHER PATH — Level 1 Mat Certification Information
Objective: Upon completion of the 36 hour instructional course, the participants will be competent to teach a fundamentals and beginning mat class of 12 persons or less where each participant will have a positive movement experience based on the works of Joseph Pilates. The participant will also learn modifications of basic mat exercises for osteoporosis, hip replacements and general lower back pain. The primary instructors of this training program are Monica Anderson, certified by the Pilates Method Alliance and Studio Director at Tone and Katherine Dowdney, certified by both Balanced Body University and Peak Pilates. Portions of this training will be conducted by Kathy McConnell, Sonya McVay and Jae Newman. Completion of this certification is a prerequisite to Tone's Mat Certification — Level 2 and Tone's Equipment Certification program.
Prerequisites: Participation in 20 mat classes (minimum of 10 at Tone) and a completed application. An interview might be requested.
Required Reading: Books are approximately $100 and not included in the cost of the certification. We will have them available to purchase at Tone.

Course Requirements:
- 36 hours of instruction. Instruction is on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4pm
- Observe 12 mat classes and attend 6 mat classes. A written evaluation will be completed on each class.
- Practice teaching sessions are included in the curriculum.
- Attend one and teach one "Community Pilates" class offered at Tone. This is a special class offered to our clients for free that will give you a "real life" teaching situation of a 50 minute class. This will also act as your practical exam.
- Written take-home exam will be due on the last session
Costs:
- $1080 – does not include cost of class observations and attendance. This price assumes you already have a class package at Tone. This must be paid in full by April 7, 2011 and is non-refundable.
- Early Bird Discount – $972 if paid by March 19, 2011 and is non-refundable.
- Payment Plan Available – please contact the front desk for a credit card AutoPay agreement. $1188 - $400 due April 2, $400 due April 16, $388 due April 30.
- Class Package – $180 for 18 classes. Only available to mat cert participants.
- Previous Mat Cert Participant – $100 per 3 hour session or $625 for participation in the Pilates Aficionado path (please see other documentation complete details of this path)

- April 16 (Sat) – Anatomy of Core – using clay and palpation with Monica & Kathy
- April 17 (Sun) – Anatomy of Core – using clay and palpation with Monica & Kathy
- April 30 (Sat) – Beginning Exercises with Katherine
- May 1 (Sun) – Practice Teaching Session with Sonya, Katherine and another certified teacher
- May 7 (Sat) – Original Repertoire with Katherine
- May 8 (Sun) – Practice Teaching Session with Sonya, Katherine and another certified teacher
- May 14 (Sat) – Overview of osteoporosis and hip replacement with Monica(osteoporosis) & Jae (hip replacement)
- May 15 (Sun) – Overview of general lower back pain and pregnancy with Katherine (pregnancy) & Sonya (low back pain)
- May 21 (Sat) – Principles of teaching with Monica
- May 22 (Sun) – Cueing and class composition with Katherine and Sonya
A homework list will be sent to you upon acceptance of your application. All observation and class evaluations must be completed and turned in by June 30, 2011 – no exceptions.
Make-up Policy: Please make every effort to attend each scheduled session. Only one absence is allowed. Any absence beyond one is automatic removal for the program. Make-ups consist of writing a 3 page essay on the topic of the day. The assignment will be given and reviewed by Monica or Katherine and must be completed within the same time period as the missing class.
Renewal: This certification expires in 3 years from receipt of certificate. To renew, documentation of 12 hours of Pilates-related continuing education must be submitted to Tone before expiration of the certification. Qualified continuing education only includes workshops that offer ACE or PMA approved CEC's. You must also provide documentation of teaching at least 25 hours per year.
