CAPOEIRA, a Brazilian martial art, is a rich combination of dance, acrobatics, self-defense techniques and music. A dynamic approach to physical fitness, CAPOEIRA helps to improve strength, flexibility, rhythm, and self- control. In class, while learning the basics of CAPOEIRA, you will learn how to combine different movements, kicks and escapes to play the “game” of CAPOEIRA.
Professora Sarará has over 15 years experience in the art of capoeira. She is the founder/director of the Humboldt Capoeira Academy in Arcata, CA. The capoeira academy, with over 100 students of all ages was successful in positively influencing the community for the past eight years. Professora Sarara has since moved here to Santa Rosa to continue her efforts to the spread of cultural awareness through the arts. She is often sought out to teach at capoeira events all over the US and abroad. Sarara is also a massage therapist and has begun her journey into the study of Pilates providing her with the education and experience to safely educate her students.
After a lifetime devoted to physical fitness, she has come to exemplify the core concepts taught through capoeira. Through her constant efforts in a predominately male sport she has provided a model for woman athletes and remains the highest ranked female in the U.S. in our group Cordão De Ouro. Professora Sarara’s support for the ideals of community and cultural education will be the foundation for building a strong capoeira family here in Sonoma.
