Love love love Amanda and her mat Pilates classes Wednesday morns!
Amanda is a fantastic teacher. Clear, motivating, funny, articulate.
Amanda Brown has been an admirer of all things movement since as a wee sprat, she first laid eyes on Michael Jackson’s white slouchy socks Moonwalking across the stage on television. That image propelled her promptly into the nearest dance studio where she began training in Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Tap, and (reluctantly) Ballet genres. Having coaxed her parents and, at one point Monica Anderson, into shuttling her all around the Bay Area to train and perform, she cultivated a love for dance that paved a yellow-brick road leading her to continue her study of dance in college. In 2007 she graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a B.A. in Dance Science, where Modern dance was of heavy influence, and where her passion for the science behind the art form she loved so much was sparked. Though she had lightly dabbled in Pilates before her time at CSULB, it wasn’t until her time spent at Long Beach under the direction and genius of Karen Clippinger that Amanda was finally able to appreciate, practice, and see the difference Pilates can make not only in a dancer, but in a person as a whole. In 2013, she finally went after what her soul was craving, and completed her Comprehensive Course through BASI Pilates, under the direction of its founder, Rael Isacowitz. Amanda is currently working towards her final certification but, in the meantime can be found nerding out on raw honey face masks, having way too much fun with her anatomy coloring books, making homemade savory granola, and legitimately counting down the days until Christmas.
