Breath is central to yoga because it is central to life . . . and yoga is about life. – T. Krishnamacharya
This program offers the experience of yoga from the ancient traditions and applying this timeless practice to present life—tools for the beginner, the seasoned, and the seeker. The intent of these tools is health, mental clarity, spiritual growth, and sustained joy for the individual. Wow!
Yoga is based on Patanjali’s YogaSutras, the authoritative source of all yoga texts. This course will be based on the sutras with Sri Krishnamacharya’s fundamental principle: that yoga must always be adapted to an individual’s changing needs in order to derive the maximum therapeutic benefit…and with the statement from his son, Sri Desikachar: “Start where you are.” We will use the sutra translations of TKV Desikachar. The strength and heart of this course is based on this lineage—passed down from father to son and beyond.
To know yoga is to experience yoga with a teacher, a sangha (community), and a personal practice. We will use all three in this intense 200-hour study.
We are a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance. As a graduate of this program, you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance. Registering will increase your credibility as a yoga teacher and visibility to your potential students as well as provide member benefits, continuing education opportunities and an online community. Yoga Alliance’s registration and renewal policies can be found online at www.yogaalliance.org.
Due to the intensity of this program, you are allowed only two absences (a total of 16 hours). Any absence beyond this is automatic removal from the program. While you may continue to attend this course if over the allowable absences, you will not be eligible for Yoga Alliance Certification.
With each absence, you must meet with one of your sangha members to receive and review the curriculum. This will need to be done immediately after the absence – before the next meeting.
If you need to leave the program for any reason, please remember that your program payment is non-refundable.

Mastery of yoga is really measured by how it influences our day-to-day living, how it enhances our relationships, how it promotes clarity and peace of mind.—T.K.V. Desikachar
