A brief thought on an infinity puzzle
Every time we go to Santa Cruz home, we bring a wooden jig saw puzzle. Jigsaw puzzle making is an example of a one pointed focus practice for me. My current “whoa’s” and ruminations slip back into the background as I concentrate on colors and shapes. This practice is one of the ways I open to my infinite.
One of my favorite puzzles is called “Infinity galaxy puzzle—nebula.” It is an actual rendition of the Carina Nebula, image credit : NASA, ESA, N.Smith UCB and the Hubble Heritage Team. The puzzle does not have any edges and every time you put it together, another shape appears. It consistently changes with every completion.
Through my Yoga lens, this is a practice of believing there are infinite possibilities with each experience — with the same pieces. The only thing that changes in the process is my experience. Therefore, my attitude is likely to change too. As much as I may think that I’m in control, other possibilities are revealed when the puzzle is complete. My mind would like to think that it can predict the future— same pieces, same place on the counter, same puzzle maker AND I cannot repeat the same shape ever! There is always a surprise even in the sameness.
Can you find awe and wonder in the sameness? Can you change your attitude in a situation that doesn’t “seem” to change? Can your mind be open to the possibilities? Can you find joy in the practice? So many questions that lead to learning more about yourself, the infinite.
Yoga is about the individual. What works for you?
1:39 “The whatever works sutra”. What can bring you back to clarity and openness?
